Homeless Students
The Education for Homeless Children and Youth (EHCY) Program's major responsibility is to implement the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act. Homeless children and unaccompanied homeless youth must have equal access to the same free, appropriate public education, including a public preschool education, and other services as provided to other children and youths to ensure that homeless children and youth have an opportunity to meet the same challenging State academic standards to which all students are held.
If your child is homeless or you are aware of a child or family that has become homeless due to fire, financial constraints, or other life circumstances, please contact Leah Johnson-Freer, Homeless Liaison, 715-684-3411 ext. 1109, Email Leah Johnson-Freer
Foster Children
When a child is placed into out-of-home care, it is presumed to be in the child’s best interest to remain enrolled in the school in which the child was enrolled or was most recently enrolled at the time of that placement. The school district and the local child welfare agency must conduct a best interest assessment to determine whether it might be in the child’s best interest to be enrolled in the school nearest to the out-of-home care placement. This is to be a collaborative process. The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) and Wisconsin Department of Children and Families (DCF) have issued suggested guidance in terms of the factors that should be considered in conducting such an assessment.
If you are a foster parent and would like more information, please contact Leah Johnson-Freer, Foster Liaison, 715-684-3411 ext. 1109, Email Leah Johnson-Freer
Child Development Days
The Early Learning Staff at the Baldwin-Woodville Area School District is preparing for the future enrollment of your child in school. Most years, that begins with an event we call Child Development Days (sometimes called preschool or 3-year-old screening).
Typically, this screening takes place in person and is intended to provide parents with developmental information and a baseline as to how their child is developing in comparison to his or her peers. If you live within the boundaries of the Baldwin-Woodville Area School District and have a preschool child between the ages of 2 years 10 months to 4 years 2 months old that has not previously been screened by school personnel, you are eligible to participate in Child Development Days. Child Development Days is not associated with 4-year-old kindergarten and is not a requirement for that program.
Hours for this year’s Child Development Days will be Thursday, November 7 12:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
If you have concerns about your child’s development but are not comfortable in a group setting, other arrangements may be possible. If you or your child are ill or may have been exposed to COVID, please let us know; we can make other arrangements to address your concerns.
Please contact Kari at 715-684-3411 ext. 1106 or Email Kari Campbell to schedule a time for your child to participate OR for additional information to discuss whether an individual screening is warranted.
