December Superintendent’s Corner
I hope you are enjoying the holiday season and the nice December weather.
At the December school board meeting, the administration team shared how Baldwin-Woodville students are doing academically. Our students and staff are doing a great job. The Baldwin-Woodville Area School District meets expectations on the state report card. The high school continues to exceed expectations on the state report card and they had the second highest ACT score in the entire CESA 11 area, which includes a lot of really good schools.

Yes, this is only one data point, but we believe it is a very important one. ACT scores are used as part of the college acceptance process. They are also a good indicator for how kids are doing towards the end of their high school career. Are they prepared to be productive adults and citizens?
We also believe extra-curricular activities and career training are very important to making well rounded individuals. Our students are very engaged and involved in many activities from athletics to musical performances to art club, and they do well. Our musical performances and plays are topnotch. The marching band won the state competition again and last year Baldwin-Woodville athletes won the Middle Border Conference Cup, which takes into consideration how all athletic teams finish throughout the entire year in comparison with the rest of the MBC schools. Our career preparation is also very active, with many things happening in the technology education department and with internships.
In summary, we believe that if students take advantage of what the Baldwin-Woodville Area School District has to offer, they are very well prepared for whatever they choose to do next. We also do this at a reasonable price, spending less than many other school districts. I know taxes did go up, even more than we expected. With the state budget, lower spending districts, such as BW, were allowed to raise their per pupil spending. Unfortunately, the state budget did not cover all of this increase, therefore the local tax levy went up. I am happy to discuss this or anything else pertaining to the school district with anyone interested.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!
