PRINCIPAL CORNER
NOVEMBER
The leaves have fallen, the temperatures have cooled, and we are closing in quickly on Thanksgiving break. It is amazing how fast the year moves! As always, there are many things happening around our school. Here are some specifics that I want to make sure that you are aware of:
Winter Wear
As temperatures get colder, and winter creeps closer, I want to once again encourage parents/guardians to remind their students about the importance of appropriate winter apparel. Our students will continue to go outside during lunch recess, and it is critical that they are dressed appropriately. I often see students arrive in the morning, regardless of temps, in shorts and light (or no) jackets. I am hopeful that all students will be dressed to comfortably enjoy the inevitable winter conditions that are looming.
Water Bottles/Student Beverages
With students transporting their belongings all day in backpacks, there has been an increasing struggle with managing water bottles/beverages. More and more we are observing students in hallways/classrooms with energy drinks, soda, etc.. As our handbook states, we ask for your assistance in ensuring that your student does not bring soft drinks, energy drinks, or coffee products in their water bottles. In addition, a clear water bottle is encouraged if possible. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated!
Chromebooks
As families are well aware, Viking students rely heavily on their 1:1 device (chromebooks) for much of what happens on a daily basis at school. With that being said, please remind your student to have his/her chromebook charged each morning when they get to school. Charged chromebooks make for a more efficient classroom environment, as well as helping us to maintain fidelity with respect to our seating assignments.
Virtual Learning
As the year has progressed, and Covid numbers rise, I am answering more questions about virtual learning here at Viking. Please see the attached link for more information about how we are supporting students who are out for Covid related reasons. Remote Learning Support
Student Pick-up
As I am sure that many of you have noticed, the number of students that get picked up at the end of the day has been significant this year. To ensure a safe and efficient pick-up process, we ask that all pick their student up curbside. You may also park in a space on the north side of the lot and have your student walk to your vehicle from the sidewalk. Your cooperation at the end of the day is greatly appreciated!!
Final Call
This is the final call for families to pick up any clothing that was left at Viking last spring from the school musical. Any items not picked up by Friday, November 20th, will be donated or disposed of. Please contact the office if you would like to sift through what remains.
Calendar Change
On Monday, November 16th, the BW School Board approved some changes to the instructional calendar for our schools. The following dates will now be staff only days at school:
-
December 4
-
December 11
-
December 18
Thanksgiving Break
With the Thanksgiving holiday nearly upon us, many are anticipating the corresponding school break. Please note that there is no school for students from November 23rd - 27th. I hope that all enjoy a safe, happy and healthy holiday!
